Retaining Wall For Steep Slope

If building a retaining wall in gradually sloping area is challenging enough, how much more with steeper slopes of 45 to even 60 degrees inclination. This is almost a cliff you are going to tackle with a retaining wall. The most appropriate retaining wall for a steep slope is poured concrete.

Steep slopes are usually wider and higher in terms of area; otherwise the landowner could just have it flattened by a bulldozer if the area is small. The large volume of soil needed to be held back by a retaining wall in steeper slopes necessitates the use of stronger material that could only be in the form poured concrete with rebar. A little bit of engineering and architectural design acumen may even be needed.

The main purpose of holding back a steep slope is to prevent it from eroding or, worse, caving in. An engineering feat to hold back the soil with a retaining wall for a steep slope is needed to safeguard properties and lives that are in the way if a cave in should happen. But, the retaining wall could also be used to construct embankment that supports a structure that hangs on the steep slope, like an outdoor patio or steps for example. This is one way to maximize land use in an otherwise useless steep slope.

Constructing a retaining wall for a steep slope needs wider and deeper trenches, and structural design and engineering. Only professional contractors can build a really dependable steep slope retaining wall; 'do-it-yourselfers' need to hand in their control over to the right people. You also need to get permission from your local building code authorities for a work as big as this.

So, maximize your land use and safeguard your property and your life if you have a steep slope in your property by constructing a retaining wall for a steep slope. You may need to dish in some amount of money but the investment is definitely well worth it.
